It was a pleasure to have you join Unbound Ideas and Dr. Drew Stevens for a conversation about strategies for energizing your business growth in 2010 with Lisa Nirell. Thank you for participating in the dialogue.

Lisa began her discussion by stating that it’s not possible these days to thrive without a plan. She noted that the world has changed –possibly forever – and the old economic models, rules and thought patterns just don’t apply.

Lisa’s GROW formula is comprised of four areas of focus: Gaps, Relationships, Outlook, and Wealth Plan.

There are two major Gaps that stop companies from thriving: Not having a practical, written growth plan; and limiting beliefs. Lisa talked at length about how to identify and overcome such beliefs.

In terms of Relationships, Lisa talked about how to improve those through basic behavioral approaches leading to higher levels of professionalism. She also mentioned the importance of developing unorthodox relationships as a way of stimulating new ideas and business lines; and developing communities where key constituents such as customers and clients can exchange and engage.

Outlook is based on attitude: is it inspired or tired? Outlook is also shaped by the role you play and the information you expose yourself to.

Finally, Lisa discussed the idea of a Wealth Plan. She defined a wealth company, not in terms of balance sheet, but in terms of larger considerations like a steady stream of new customers, clear values, innovation, the inspiration and purpose of your work, and the quality of life experienced by employees. Wealth needs to be defined by each company, and taken into account. Successful businesses track and measure their indicators of wealth.
